HOSTING
3DML SPOTS
Most free homepage hosting
services will host a Spot which has been embedded
in an HTML file. However, the process for setting up a site differs
slightly on the different hosting services. Here we've provided a guide
for how to set up a site on most free homepage hosting services:
HOSTING
TOOLS > NOVICE & BROWSER BASED UPLOADS
Generally, free homepage
hosting providers have one of three ways to set up a site. First there
is a "novice" tool that walks you through building your first
HTML only page. Typically, a Novice tool will prompt you where
to put your name, e-mail address and picture of your cat, and will save
the file to your space on their server. Novice tools are not generally
useful for 3DML files as they are very simple tools that only feature
HTML. The second
tool you'll come across from a hosting service is usually a browser-based
file-uploading tool. This allows you to upload files to the server that
you have already built on your hard-drive. In most cases, neither of these
two options will work for posting 3DML spots to your web sites. Instead,
the best route for putting 3DML Spots on your site is to use FTP.
HOSTING
TOOLS > FTP CLIENTS
Many of the providers
have a way of "FTPing" your files to their server. FTP stands
for File Transfer Protocol and means that your files are transferred
directly to the server space you have been given. For information on downloading
and using an FTP client see the help pages at http://geocities.yahoo.com/help/ftp/.
For hosting 3DML Spots, the FTP client will usually be your best bet.
HOSTING
YOUR SPOT > DON'T FORGET TO EMBED!
Currently, TRIPOD is
the only free hosting service which supports the 3DML mime type. If you
are using any other service, you will need to embed your 3DML spot in
an HTML file. This is very simple! Click here
