Builder's Resource
Tip > Zipping your 3DML Files
Zipping your 3DML files can help minimize download times for your
visitors, especially for particularly large 3DML files. There are
many shareware utilities available that you can use to zip up your
files. We usually use WinZip [http://www.winzip.com],
but you can find a long list of other zipping utilities to chose from
here:
http://www.winfiles.com/apps/98/compress.html.
Winzip is very easy
to use for zipping files. First, download and install the WinZip
program. Then create a 3DML file. Let's assume your spot is called
radspot.3dml. Find the icon for the radspot.3dml file and right
click on it. A menu will popup including an option to "Add to radspot.zip"
Select this item and a new file called radspot.zip will appear in
the same directory. Then just change the file extension from .zip
back to .3dml. The size of the file will have dropped dramatically,
and Rover will still be able to display the spot!

For the many spot builders who use Textpad to build their 3DML spots,
there's exciting news! Version
4 of TextPad has just been released. Some of the hot new enhancements
include color syntax highlighting, multiple workspaces, customizable
toolbars, full screen view mode, and more!
There is a new Flatland
3DML Clip Library for TextPad 4.0, which includes both the Basic2
and Islands blocksets. Click
